Work is impossible

I have come to the point where I can say that I can't deal with the manager at my work. He did a performance review today that covered 1/2005 to 6/2006 - He had recorded every error he could find with my work right down to the wrong date on a letter and errors that my coworker had done was blamed on me. He rated my work lower than last year!! I told him that he was trying to push me out the door and that he had succeeded because I wasn't going to take his harrassment anymore. He told me to put it in writing. I told him when I was good and ready! I told him what I thought of him, how he had given me a bad time from day one and that after twenty years with the company, it was odd that someone would suddenly find I wasn't doing my job!! I have lost all interest in working there. I've put two decades of loyalty into that job and am treated like low life. It was a weight off my shoulders to finally say I wasn't sticking around. I should have quit 3 years ago when he took over my manager's job when she retired! This means a lot of changes in my life. I will have to cut back on the ISP I currently have. (Internet Service Provider) I will have to cancel alot of luxuries I have become used to. One has to do what one has to do. I don't care if my work can read this. What are they going to do - fire me??

I am so very sorry to hear about your manager. This is the first time I have read your blog. I so feel your pain. I was "laid Off" from a job where I had a manager who was just like yours. Before they laid me off, my blood pressure was at "stroke" level...21 days after they laid me off it was right at normal. All the money in the world is not worth some of the stuff you have to put up with at your job. Good for you for standing up for yourself and doing what you need to do. Cudos to you!

I have been at my job 23 years and have had managers like that. I just hunkered down and waited them out. I could not afford to give up the benefits. I am in survival mode now, cut off all luxeries. I have a long drive to work and gas is killing me. I am now riding the bus which has helped some. If your job is affecting your health, then you definetly need to do something. Good Luck.

Well, you are certainly not alone...I am in the exact same situation as you...one of these days I'll tell you the details...but you are not making a mistake in moving on. Life is too short to put up with a manager who is making life miserable....if you send me your email address we can talk more...

Ditto Connie! You'll feel better when it's all over!
I feel we live in a horrible world that will lay off or disgust experienced people because they're not willing to pay what they're worth!
I'm sorry Terri.

Hi Terri,
I'm just getting back from vacation and trying to catch up on blogs. So sorry the situation at work has gotten so bad, but sounds like you'll be better off healthwise away from it. {{{{Terri}}}}

They can't fire you for your blog comment as you haven't mentioned any names. Anyway, you go ahead and get yourself a new job in a place that appreciates you. You need to, or you'll make yourself ill with the upset. Poor you, Terri! I feel so sorry for you. I had a job once where my line manager wanted rid of me as I was younger, slimmer and more intelligent than her, but MOSTLY because of religious prejudice. Stinks! Well, she'll get hers one day and she won't get my sympathy!

What a bummer. I feel for you! Hang in there. I hope you resolve your living arrangements for retirement soon.

Is there any way this person is going to leave? Or be promoted to a different area?

One can always hope.
